Meursault is a unique village in Burgundy because it has never asked for "Grand Cru" status, even though its best vineyards are just as prestigious and high-quality as famous names like Montrachet or Corton. The 2020 Meursault "Vireuils" is a perfect example of this hidden greatness. It smells like a beautiful mix of fresh citrus, green apples, peaches, white flowers, and a touch of dried herbs and spices. When you taste it, it feels perfectly balanced - it has that classic, rich "buttery" feel of a great Meursault, but it stays smooth and structured rather than heavy. With its floral, spicy flavors and a long, refreshing finish that leaves a hint of sea-salt minerality on the tongue, it is an incredibly elegant wine that doesn't need a fancy label to prove it is world-class.
